The basic policies and procedures governing students are found primarily in the Stanford Bulletin http://www.stanford.edu/dept/registrar/bulletin, including the following topics: academic standing, computer security, disability services, discipline, financial aid, grievances, immigration, political activity, records/privacy, domestic partners, weapons on campus, controlled substances and alcohol and smoking.

PRIVACY: What rules govern the privacy of student records?

FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act) is a Federal law designed to protect the privacy of a student's education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education, including Stanford University. LEGAL COUNSELING: If I need legal advice, whom can I contact?

The ASSU offers FREE legal advice to any student who needs it. Please refer to the ASSU Legal Counseling Office at http://assu.stanford.edu/ or (650) 375-2481 to schedule an appointment.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT: What is the University's policy on sexual harassment? What resources are available on campus?

Stanford University strives to provide a place of work and study free of sexual harassment, intimidation, or exploitation. It is expected that students, faculty, and staff will treat each other with respect.

The University has long adhered to a policy of non-interference once an arrest has been made. For more details, please review Stanford University's Policy on Arrests and Prosecutions.

RALLIES & PROTESTS: What do I need to know to organize a rally at Stanford?

Stanford University has designated White Plaza as the designated University area available to University recognized departments and student groups for programs, speeches, rallies, information tables, banners and posters and can be scheduled through the Office of Student Activities (OSA), 723-2733 (except for information, all events and banner space must be scheduled with the OSA). White Plaza is also the designated area for free speech on campus. The Main Quad and the Oval are NOT available for rallies or protests; please see University Policy Regarding Use Of The Oval and Policy On Use Of Main Quadrangle And Memorial Court. Additionally, all rallies, protests or student gatherings must comply with the University's Policy Regarding Noise and Amplified Sound.
