Entrepreneurship in Civil & Environmental Engineering
Online
Overview
Developing entrepreneurial businesses in civil and environmental engineering with the support of instructors who are experienced venture capitalists (VCs), company founders and operators provides you real-world perspective and a network to help realize a business idea.
This course teaches you a rigorous process of assessing opportunities, developing products, building a go-to market strategy, and analyzing funding requirements, all culminating with presentations to industry experts and VC's to mimic typical investor pitches.
This is a team project course that requires significant time outside of the weekly lecture material. Some projects will require Public Private Partnerships for funding. Technology will also play a strong role in the projects.
Projects typically address a wide range of businesses with some tie-in to civil and environmental engineering.
Project topics may include:
- Sustainable and innovative building construction
- Energy arbitrage
- Services companies
- Environmental remediation
- Advanced waste treatment
- IT applications in construction
- Advanced materials
