There are a number of nonprofit organizations operating subsidized housing in Berkeley and throughout the East Bay. Eligibility for these apartments is usually based on your family’s size, income, and the apartment size. Some are only for seniors or people with disabilities.
Typically, the property manager for each property maintains a waiting list specific to that property. Because more people are seeking affordable housing than housing is available, waiting lists are often closed when they get too long. Therefore, you will need to submit an application for each individual property, and you will need to check to find out what properties are currently accepting applications.
