DERM 300A. Dermatology Clerkship (SUMC, PAVAMC)   S1   Closed to Visitors
Consists of a 4 week rotation through Stanford adult and pediatric clinics and the VA. Designed to give students a broad clinical exposure to skin diseases. Emphasis is on the outpatient diagnosis and treatment of common skin problems and the cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease. Students are expected to attend the Tuesday morning didactic teaching sessions as well as the dermatology grand rounds every Thursday morning. Students are expected to learn how to describe and recognize morphology, to perform a thorough skin examination, and to perform basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Prereq: MED 208 or INDE 206
Periods Avail: 2-12, full-time for four weeks. 2 week requests will NOT be accepted. 2 students per period.

DERM 309A. Pediatric Dermatology Clerkship (SUMC)     Open to Visitors
Consists of a 4-week clerkship based at Pediatric Dermatology Clinic at 770 Welch Road, Suite 261 at LPCH Palo Alto location. This clerkship is designed to give students a broad clinical exposure to pediatric skin diseases. Emphasis is on the outpatient diagnosis and treatment of common skin problems and the cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease. Students are expected to attend the Tuesday morning didactic teaching sessions as well as the dermatology grand rounds every Thursday morning. Students are expected to learn how to describe and recognize morphology, to perform a thorough skin examination, and to perform basic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Basic conversational Spanish is not required as we have a translation service accessible in every exam room in the clinic.
Prereq: MED 208 or INDE 206, DERM 300A preferred

DERM 310B. Advanced Clinical Elective in Dermatology (SUMC/VAPAHCS)     Open to Visitors
A dermatology advanced clerkship designed for medical students interested in pursuing dermatology residency training. It consists of a 4 week clerkship based at the Stanford Medicine Outpatient Clinic in Redwood City, Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Palo Alto, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital in Palo Alto, and the Palo Alto VA. Students work closely with faculty to obtain strong clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of common skin disorders. Students are part of the Stanford and VA dermatology teams, participating in dermatopathology sessions, inpatient consultations, cutaneous oncology, surgery, and general adult and pediatric dermatology clinics. Students are expected to attend Tuesday morning didactic teaching sessions as well as Dermatology Grand Rounds every Thursday morning. Students will be expected to give a case-based presentation at Grand Rounds during the rotation.  Please contact Dr. Jennifer Lai at laij@stanford.edu or Dr. Jennifer Chen at jenniferkchen@stanford.edu if you are interested in enrolling in Dermatology 310B. There is no guarantee that a letter of recommendation will be written at the end of the elective. A pediatric dermatology advanced clerkship designed for medical students interested in pursuing dermatology residency training. It consists of a 4-week clerkship based at the Pediatric Dermatology Clinic located at 770 Welch Road, Suite 261, 2nd Floor, Palo Alto, CA 94304 location. Students work closely with faculty to obtain strong clinical skills in the diagnosis and management of common skin disorders. Students are part of the Stanford and LPCH dermatology teams, participating in dermatopathology sessions, inpatient consultations, melanoma, cutaneous oncology, surgery, and pediatric dermatology clinics. Students are expected to attend the Tuesday morning didactic teaching sessions, as well as the dermatology grand rounds every Thursday morning.
Prereq: DERM 309A.

DERM 398A. Clinical Elective in Dermatology (SUMC, PAVAMC, SCVMC, KPMC)     Closed to Visitors
Provides an opportunity for a student in the clinical years to have a clinical experience in Dermatology, of a quality and duration to be decided upon by the student and a faculty preceptor in the Department of Dermatology. Please note: Students cannot add 398A clerkships directly to their fishbowl schedules through the regular shuffles. Please contact Caroline Cheang in the Office of Student Services at cheang@stanford.edu or 650-498-7619 with the faculty preceptor’s name and email address to add this clerkship.
