Now you can get more from Stanford’s pre-tax payroll deduction program. This program allows eligible employees to purchase parking permits, transit passes, transit parking, Clipper Cash and Commuter Checks with pre-tax dollars via payroll deduction. To participate in the program, you can enroll through the Parking & Transportation Services website at any time throughout the year. P&TS coordinates with Payroll to make sure the correct amount is deducted from your paycheck.

At the end of 2015, a new monthly limit on pre-tax commuter benefit deductions was signed into law, increasing the maximum monthly pre-tax transit deduction from $130 to $255 and making parity permanent between transit and parking pre-tax commuter benefits. With this legislation, the monthly cap on transit, vanpool, and parking increases to $255 per month starting retroactively on Jan. 1, 2015.

Federal regulations specify that pre-tax dollars may only be used for an employee’s personal transportation, such as commuting to and from work, and may not be transferred to another individual.
