The mission of Stanford’s Graduate School of Education is to develop the knowledge, wisdom, and imagination of its students to enable them to take leadership positions in efforts to improve the quality of education around the globe. To this end the GSE offers two degree programs for students. They include the Master of Arts in Education (M.A.) degree, and the Doctor of Philosophy of Education (Ph.D.) degree. Each year the GSE has approximately 400 MA and PhD students pursuing degrees, with 225 graduates annually joining the 12,000+ alumni that impact the field of education in a variety of organizations around the world.
Our M.A. degree is a 9 or 12 month intensive program for students who wish to study a particular field in education. There are 9 programs of study including 2 joint degree programs.
Our PhD. degree prepares students to be leaders in education through rigorous research training under the guidance of an assigned faculty mentor/advisor. Graduates often assume roles as university faculty, senior-level education leaders, policymakers, and researchers.
