Meet the Team

Green Living Coordinators

The Green Living Council is entirely student-run, and at the heart of the group are the student representatives who have been selected to work as Green Living Coordinators in their residences on campus. These environmental leaders work to educate their housemates on environmental issues and promote sustainable behaviors in everyday student life at Stanford. Their role includes a wide range of responsibilities, from organizing residential programming and activities to bringing sustainability-related concerns of their residents to the attention of the Council.

Leadership Team

An organization like the GLC could not run without the dedicated support of the student leaders, who work to oversee all of the group's activities, recruit Green Living Coordinators, form partnerships with administrators and other student groups, and much more.

Co-Presidents

Julieta Fischer

Julieta is an Economics major with a minor in Mathematics. She deeply cares about the environmental wellbeing of the Stanford community. Inspired by the growing and very active green movement in Switzerland, her home country, she integrates sustainable habits into her daily lifestyle and promotes environmental consciousness on campus. In her free time, Julieta loves to do yoga, bake organic treats, bike on the Farm, and ski in the beautiful Swiss Alps.

Olivia Reyes-Becerra

I like the beach.

Executives

Isabelle Barnard

Isabelle is a senior majoring in Anthropology and Iberian and Latin American Cultures and hailing from the green mountains of South Londonderry, Vermont. When Isabelle was in third grade, her class conducted an experiment in which they poured acid on plants to simulate acid rain. Isabelle was so horrified that she switched her dream job from poet/secret agent to environmental activist. Here at Stanford, Isabelle loves vegan baking, carrying around a reusable silverware set, and explaining how the recycling system works. After a summer collecting animal and ghost stories in the Ecuadorian Amazon, she's stoked to get down to work with this year's batch of Green Living Coordinators. Let's save the world, folks!

Campus Programming Director

Ana Sophia Mifsud

I was born in Guatemala, but I grew up in Miami, Florida. Since most of my family still lives in Guatemala I travel to Guatemala often. My constant travels to Guatemala made me conscious of two things: I care a lot about development of countries like Guatemala and I have a deep passion for the environment. These seemingly contradictory interests ignited my desire to study issues of sustainable development. I am currently a sophomore and I plan on majoring in either civil and environmental engineering or atmosphere and energy engineering. For fun, I like to dance. In fact, I am the current director of Stanford belly dancing troupe.

I like scarves.

Wang Ye

I like penguins.

Senior Green Living Gurus

Sasha Brownsberger

Sasha graduated with degrees physics and mathematics, and led the GLC as President for two years. Growing up with the Coconino National Forest of Arizona as his back yard, Sasha has always felt a deep love of the world’s wild places. However as an aspiring physicist engaged in active astrophysics research, he is also both in awe of and greatly indebted to the wondrous accomplishments of modern civilization. He attempts to take a pragmatic approach to sustainability, and believes wholeheartedly that humanity can continue its truly remarkable pace of advancement without simultaneously destroying the world that makes such advancement possible. A difficult task, but he believes humanity is up to the challenge. During his rare moments of free time, Sasha loves to move, whether it’s climbing (rocks, tress, buildings, basketball hoops, etc), skiing (telemark), running, hiking, soccer, and kung fu.

Angela Kwok
Angela graduated with degrees Atmosphere and Energy Engineering and Sustainable Design and Construction in Civil Engineering. Her ties and dedication to GLC are strong, having been Co-President and Campus Programming Director. During her three years as a leader of the group, she has gained much experience from organizing events and projects, as well as from collaborating with other leaders. GLC has become a part of her identity at Stanford and she would love to see GLC grow each year. While she's not serving a particular leadership role this year, she continues to be involved as a advisor to the group and as the Chair of GAIA, the umbrella organization for the sustainability student groups. Aside from GLC, Angela is also a member of the Stanford Archery team. She is passionate about environmental sustainability and enjoys motivating others to adopt green practices in everyday life. Her interests lie particularly in green buildings.

Graham Provost

Graham graduated with a degree in Atmosphere and Energy Engineering and is a former co-president of GLC. He is dedicated to making his own life, Stanford, and the World more sustainable. Graham continues to be involved in sustainability on campus as financial officer for GAIA and Vice President of Appetite for Change.. His academic interests include renewable energy, climate science, environmental policy, math, and almost everything else.

William Greenbaum

William graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Physics, and is a former president of the GLC. He loves to be outdoors and tries his best to protect it. In terms of sustainability, he works by the idea that doing what is good for the environment is typically good for everything else (health, money, time, etc). He hopes other people will adopt this philosophy. After joining GLC as a freshman, William stepped up as a Residence Project Coordinator. Sophomore year he continued the project track as Course Coordinator and Head TA for Earth Systems 18. William collected all that he had learned into the GLC SEED program and spent last year building up the GLC as President.

Kevan Christensen

Kevan graduated from Stanford in 2010 with degrees in Earth Systems and International Relations. At Stanford he founded the Green Living Council and was its President for three years. He was also a member of Students for a Sustainable Stanford and Energy Crossroads. He is interested in international environmental policy and sustainable development, and after a year long fellowship with State Department and is now working on climate adaptation in Bangladesh.
