The Diversity & Access Office ensures University compliance with nondiscrimination and equal opportunity laws. The office also oversees Stanford’s compliance with federal and state disability-related laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the ADA Amendments Act, and Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Public Events

For public events at the University (e.g., commencement, new student orientation, lectures, etc.), Diversity and Access is responsible for arranging disability-related accommodations for visitors. Individuals who need sign-language interpreters, Assistive Listening Devices (ALD’s), wheelchair access to venues or other accommodations, should directly contact the Diversity and Access Office.

Stanford Student services

Students should contact the Diversity and Access Office in regard to the following:

  • Accommodations for Stanford sponsored extracurricular events and activities (e.g., a play, musical event, dorm supported trip, athletics).
  • Non-academic accommodations.
  • Facility access issues related to classroom building and offices as well as paths of travel (e.g., building needs a power door, potholes and cracked sidewalks create hazards for a wheelchair user).
  • Accommodations needed for parents, relatives, or visitors of the student.

The Ombuds is an impartial, neutral, and confidential dispute resolver who strives to see that students, faculty, and staff are treated fairly and equitably in their academic and professional lives at Stanford.

Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

CTL IS the place to go for help in improving study skills, time management, and reading proficiency. The Center provides workshops and counseling on various academic concerns.

 

Oral Communication Program

The Oral Communication Program at the CTL provides a range of opportunities for students to improve their oral communication skills. Students interested in individualized instruction or independent study are invited to visit the program's Speaking Center on the fourth floor of Sweet Hall, where trained student consultants, audio/video technology, and a variety of instructional resource materials are available on an on-going basis.

Bechtel International Center (I-Center)

The I-Center is a meeting place for students, scholars, and families from other countries and for internationally oriented U.S. Students at Stanford. The Center offers assistance on matters of special concern to international students.

 

Police and Public Safety (Sherriff Dept.)

The Stanford branch of the Santa Clara County Sherriff ensures Stanford’s public safety and works with the University to settle legal disruptions and disturbances.
