ResEd Diversity Commitment Statement

2014-15 Student Staff pose for a group shot while on Snow Trip.

Residential Education commits to create and maintain an inclusive community that promotes critical inquiry and exploration while celebrating identity and difference.

As clarified by the Study of Undergraduate Education at Stanford (SUES Report, Residential Learning, p. 63), we believe that:

“Living in communities of unparalleled diversity, [students] test the boundaries of identity and difference, forging friendships with peers whose national, religious, racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual identities are different from their own. In all these ways and more, [Res Ed] prepares students to take up the responsibilities of personal, national, and global citizenship.”

We strive to imbue our work with opportunities to engage difference (p.39) by providing both formal and informal means to support the cultivation of this critical capacity.

This is a continual process. Our statement, like the work, is ever evolving. We invite you to join us in the conversation. Reach out. Bring your ideas and energy in response to the needs that you see. Come grow. Share perspectives. Learn. We welcome you to engage with our ResEd community!
