America's long-term care community has already suffered 91,000 deaths since this pandemic hit — that's roughly 40 percent of the country's COVID-19 deaths. This new uptick in nursing home infections is terrible, terrible news:

I applaud Chair Powell for the Fed’s approach to public communications, but he still really has a long way to go to catch up to some of his foreign counterparts.

Although the headline unemployment rate is far down from its peak, core unemployment remains near its pandemic high. Temporary layoffs are fading. Permanent unemployment is not. 2/

Payrolls +638k in October, and the unemployment rate has fallen by a full percentage point to 6.9% (even as participation rose). A very strong household report, with a weaker (but pretty much as expected) payrolls report. Sadly, the payrolls report is usually more informative.

In light of the Trump campaign's premature declaration that they have won Pennsylvania, a reminder of what the U.S. government requested early today from this West African country during their election period: "Show commitment to the democratic process and the rule of law."

It’s laughable that in 2020, this country still needs to be reminded, Sesame Street style, that Latinos are not a monolith & the Latino vote is a mirage. This misconception comes from how little u bother knowing us, how superficially u cover us & how absent we are in newsrooms.

    3. America waking up today to the realization that voters not only didn’t reject a president who has sowed such discord and pursued some objectively horrible policies, but a large enough part of the electorate decided that’s the type of governing they want: Self over country.

The ADP measure is often off from the official Jobs Day number, but there’s undoubtedly some signal there and it’s slowing.

High school math teachers will not tell you that you’ll need everything you’ve ever learned about numbers to figure out what’s happening to our republic while stress-eating an entire bag of Doritos on Election Night. But they should.
