Learning Experience Design Group

The Learning Experience Design group is focused on instructor- and student-facing activities that enhance the quality of teaching and learning at Stanford through direct service to members of the campus community.

For instructors (including Stanford faculty, lecturers, and teaching assistants), we provide tools and techniques for effective teaching, course development support, one-on-one consultations, student feedback services, and support for a wide range of educational initiatives on campus. For students (both undergraduates and graduates), we offer programs designed to promote learning skills, resilience, and success in their academic lives at Stanford. For departments and schools, we partner in curriculum development and cohost workshops and retreats on a wide range of teaching and learning topics. Across our work, we strive to bring our understanding of student experience and the learning sciences into designing the best possible opportunities for learners at Stanford.

Our Approach

The Learning Experience Design group sees everyone at Stanford as simultaneously a learner and a teacher, engaged in a wide variety of practical activities for increasing our knowledge, skills, and abilities to be productive in the world.  Our group works to bring into this daily practice:

  • Research-informed guidance for addressing opportunities and challenges
  • An experimental spirit for trying innovative and bold approaches
  • A process of iteration built on implementation, feedback, and reflection
  • A community of support to promote and encourage excellence
  • A commitment to engaging the diversity of experiences and backgrounds on campus
  • Recognition of the many settings for learning beyond the traditional classroom.
