Immunoserologic Testing
Helicobacter pylori stool antigen enzyme immunoassay: Fresh, refrigerated feces are submitted for this test, which has sensitivity approximately 95% compared with the urea breath test, the state of the art for detection of H. pylori disease.
Helicobacter pylori serum antibody: Patients with previous H. pylori infection, whether currently symptomatic or not, will test positive in this assay.
Aspergillus gallactomannan serum antigen: The presence of this antigen has been shown to correlate with invasive aspergillosis, primarily in immunocompromised patients.
Cryptococcal antigen test:
This is the definitive test for diagnosis of Cryptococcus neoformans disease. Either cerebrospinal fluid or serum can be tested; the test is performed nightly.
