Services

CIDR is a diverse group technology specialists, researchers and software developers who provie a wide range of services in support of the humanities, social sciences, and related domains.  The following are our key service areas:

Academic Technology Specialists

Academic Technology Specialists collaborate with faculty and staff in various campus departments and research centers, providing leadership and library-based support for innovative uses of information technology for education and research. ATSs are placed within schools, programs or departments based not simply on technical expertise, but on their deep discipline-specific backgrounds. CIDR currently has ATSs in the Departments of History and Anthropology; in the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languagees (DLCL); and in the Insitutute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRiSS). They participate in the departmental culture and share academic interests with their associated faculty and students.

Social sciences data and software support

Social Science Data and Software (SSDS) provides services and support to Stanford faculty, staff and students in the acquisition, curation, and preservation of social science data and the selection and use of quantitative (statistical) and qualitative analysis software. SSDS staff members provide these services in a variety of ways that include consulting, workshops and help documentation. We are located in the Social Sciences Resource Center (SSRC) on the first floor of the Green Library Bing Wing.

Humanities text provisioning and analysis support

The humanities text support service (known as hText) provides access to digital text resources for research and teaching. The team creates, procures, and stewards many important digital library text collections to ensure their usability for digital humanities and other research, and long-term preservation in the Stanford Digital Repository; hText specialists also conduct outreach, research, and teaching activities focusing on textual resources and services.  

Software development and technology support for faculty research projects

The CIDR technical team engages in research collaborations with Stanford faculty, primarily in the digital humanities and computational social sciences. Projects typically focus on the production of digitally enabled scholarship designed to analyze, visualize, or simulate an interesting problem in the humanities or social sciences. CIDR support in these collaborations consist of software development, project planning, and project management efforts.
