Stanford Cancer Institute Research Database (SCIRDB)
What information is in the database?
The Stanford Cancer Institute Research Database has a rich set of data which integrates many resources including EPIC, STRIDE, specialized databases in surgical pathology and radiation oncology, the Stanford Cancer Registry, and the Social Security Death Index (SSDI). Our information card summarizes the SCIRDB features and capabilities.
Where can I learn more about the database?
If you would like to schedule a session with the team to learn about the SCIRDB, please email us
(ccdb-consult@lists.stanford.edu) with a brief description of your research interests and several possible times when you are available to meet.
Can the database be used to identify a set of patients?
Yes! We can help you build a cohort using diagnoses, ICD-9/10 or ICD-O codes, and CPT billing codes. We can help you do complex searches involving dictations and other notes. We can identify which subjects have tissue stored in the Stanford Tissue bank.
Do you provide tools to help curate existing data and add new data?
We provide extensive tools for browsing and searching existing data. Also, we can integrate cohort data with tools like REDCap to facilitate the curation of existing data or to add study-specific information.
How do I get access?
Please submit the SCIRDB Data Request form (https://redcap.stanford.edu/plugins/gethelp/). We will contact you within two business days after receiving the form to schedule an initial consultation about your request. Also, we may require that the principal investigator be available at least for the initial consultation about the project because we need to discuss the scientific goals, to determine the extent of sensitive information that is needed, and to verify direct involvement of the Stanford Cancer Institute member. This input from the principal investigator also facilitates approval by the SCI Informatics Steering Committee.
What will expedite your request?
When you submit the SCIRDB Data Request form (https://redcap.stanford.edu/plugins/gethelp/), also provide the information in this checklist to expedite your research request.
- Provide the name of a Stanford Cancer Institute member who will sponsor your research project.
- Provide the approved Stanford IRB number for this research project.
- Ensure that all people who need access to the data are covered by the approved IRB.
- Ensure that all people who will interact with the data have completed CITI HIPAA training.
Cost of working with DCC
We provide 8 hours of service subsidized by the Stanford Cancer Institute for each member per fiscal year. For effort beyond those 8 hours, we will work with you to develop the scope of work and provide an estimate. Please contact us for further details at ccdb-consult@lists.stanford.edu.
