Seismic Bracing and Restraints
The three guidelines you MUST know:
- Large Equipment and Furniture - Secure ALL equipment and furniture taller than four feet and more than 400 pounds.
- Bench top equipment - The loss of even the most common or least expensive equipment can delay research. Microscopes, balances, centrifuges, analytical equipment) can be easily and unobtrusively secured for a very modest charge. In many cases the price is less than $25/unit.
- Gas Cylinders - Restrain with two sets of chains (1/3 from the top; 1/3 from the bottom); no more than two cylinders per set of chains.
