Program Overview
Fellows in the the Stanford Medical Biochemical Genetics Program benefit from a unique educational environment. Clinical training occurs primarily at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford Hospital and Clinics. Residents also train in the biochemical genetics lab at Stanford University Medical Center.
Our one year program is accredited by the ACGME Residency Review Committee in Medical Genetics and prepares our graduates to sit for the Medical Biochemical Genetics subspecialty Board Examination administered by the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG). We are able to accept one resident to this program per year.
The fellowship program seeks to attract physicans of diverse backgrounds and experience interested in pursuing careers in medical biochemical genetics. The fellowship is open to physicians who have completed a residency program in Clinical Medical Genetics. Residents must be eligible to work in the United States and obtain a California medical license prior to the commencement of training.
Clinical Curriculum
Fellows participate in the metabolic genetics clinic and neurogenetics clinic as well as the California Newborn Screening Program. Fellows also train in the clinical biochemical genetics lab at Stanford University Medical Center.
Research
Fellows are expected to undertake a mentored research project during their training. Trainees at Stanford have co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and have regularly presented their work at regional and national meetings.
Competitively awarded fellowships administered by the Department of Pediatrics are available to support additional clinical, translational or basic science research training.
