Gerald Grant, MD, FACS
Professor of Neurosurgery
Division Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery

Dr. Grant received his MD from Stanford University in 1994 and trained as a resident in neurosurgery at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Seattle Children's Hospital. He entered active duty with the US Air Force and became Director of Surgical Epilepsy at Wilford Hall Medical Center and UT San Antonio. After his deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dr. Grant moved back to his alma mater at Duke University in 2006. He remained there on the faculty for 7 years as Director of Pediatric Surgical Epilepsy. He was recruited back to Stanford in 2013. Dr. Grant is committed to the treatment of children with intractable epilepsy and is an expert at state-of-the-art brain mapping techniques and awake language mapping in epilepsy patients.

David S. Hong, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor, Neurosurgery

Dr. Hong specializes in the treatment of pediatric patients with neurosurgical conditions, with additional specialty training in the treatment of pediatric spinal disorders, including scoliosis. He completed his residency in his home state of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center, and completed fellowship training at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego, before becoming a part of Stanford Children's Health.

His clinical interests include brain tumors, epilepsy surgery, idiopathic scoliosis, Chiari malformation, vascular conditions, concussion, and will treat all other conditions within the specialty.


Kelly Mahaney, MD
Assistant Professor, Neurosurgery

Dr. Mahaney is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon with clinical interest in Hydrocephalus, Craniovertebral Junction abnormalities, Spasticity, Spinal dysraphism and Myelomeningocele, Central Nervous System tumors, and Pediatric Epilepsy surgery. She completed residency training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and subspecialty Pediatric Neurosurgery training at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and the Barrow Neurologic Institute at Phoenix Children's Hospital. She is interested in advancing Neuro-endoscopic techniques in Pediatric Neurosurgical practice. Dr. Mahaney's research focuses on delineating the role of iron in the development of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus.


Augustus Jose Perez, MD
Pediatric Clinical Instructor

Gus' home town is Austin, TX.  He attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.  He completed his internship and residency training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  He is the Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellow at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and Clinical Instructor of Neurosurgery in the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery.  His loving family includes Janelle Bennett and their two-year-old son, Hendrix.  

Melissa Ballard, RN, MS, CPNP-AC

is a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) specializing in the care of hospitalized children, with an emphasis in the acute care setting. She is also a member of NAPNAP.


Camille Bloom, MS, MMS, RD, PA-C

Camille currently covers both neurology and neurosurgery at the San Francisco campus at CPMC. Her areas of interest in neurosurgery are tethered cord, intraventricular hemorrhage of prematurity, craniosynostosis and plagiocephaly.

 May Casazza, c-ACPNP

May is a certified pediatric neurosurgery nurse practitioner with extensive experience working with pediatric intensive care patients. May received her undergraduate nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University and her graduate training at UC San Francisco.


Stephanie Choi, RN, MS, CPNP-BC

Stephanie is a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) specializing in the care of children with special health care needs with an emphasis in adolescent health care. Her previous experience includes working as a neurosurgery PNP at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, California.


Nicole Hodgeboom, RN, MS, CPNP, CNS

Nicole has over 10 years of experience working as a certified pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP), caring for children with complex medical conditions.


Diana Poon, RN, MSN, CPNP, CCRN

Diana is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) with extensive experience working with pediatric intensive care patients. She is also a certified critical care nurse and a member of NAPNAP.


Camly Slawson, RN, MS, CNS, PNP

Camly is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with a background in the pediatric specialty and acute care settings both as a pediatric nurse practitioner and registered nurse.  Camly completed her undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University and attained her Master of Science degree at the University of California, San Francisco. Camly is a board member of NAPNAP and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International.
