Greening EPA

Green Buildings at EPA

EPA strives to design, construct, and operate its buildings to save energy, water, and other resources and reduce waste and emissions. As an Agency with some older, less efficient buildings, the challenge is to maintain a safe, healthy, and sustainable work environment. EPA promotes the following green building principles in all of its facilities, whether new construction, renovations, or existing buildings:

  • Careful site selection and development
  • Energy conservation and renewable energy
  • Water conservation
  • Responsible stormwater management and landscaping
  • Material reduction, recycling, composting, and environmentally preferable building materials
  • Improved indoor environmental quality
