Redering of Redwood City Campus

Working at Stanford Redwood City

Our new campus opening in 2019

Expansion Advances Continued Growth of Research and Education

Stanford Redwood City is our first major expansion from the original campus in over 125 years. The new campus, targeted to open in 2019, is essential to our continued growth and the advancement of our mission to research and education. Our employees are vital to this pursuit.

Our new campus will be the workplace for approximately 2,700 employees whose jobs are important to supporting the university's mission. The 35-acre campus includes four building complexes and enables greater collaboration by bringing work groups and departments currently dispersed together in a cohesive, new campus.

Employees relocating to the Redwood City campus represent various schools and business units, including the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning (VPTL), School of Medicine, University Libraries, Business Affairs & CFO, University Human Resources (UHR), Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), Office of Development (OOD), and Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE).

"Stanford Redwood City is essential to the future of Stanford, and I'm excited about the work being done to make it a great workplace for our employees. This is a unique opportunity to create both a new center of excellence for our operations and a vibrant, attractive workplace with more services for our employees. This is not just about moving people and functions. The development of Stanford Redwood City will require all of us at Stanford, wherever we work, to develop new ways of working together and connecting with each other."

– Marc Tessier-Lavigne, President

Continuing our Commitment to Cardinal at Work

In early 2017, the Redwood City Planning Commission officially signed off on final designs, approving the start of construction. The Construction Phase marks a new milestone in the Stanford Redwood City project, particularly for our employees.

Over the next two years, you can expect regular updates on the progress of our new campus. The employees selected to relocate will be the first ever to experience Stanford's expansion. Moving is challenging, but the commitment to all employees moving forward is to:

  • Provide regular and timely updates on the project
  • Provide responses to your questions, even if the answer is “we don’t know yet”
  • Ensure clear and specific information is provided about the Stanford Redwood City campus move, and the associated events, activities, technology and workplace design that employees can expect
  • Provide managers with communication tools to support effective, local dialogue

Transportation

Stanford Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) continues to research and develop a robust transportation program that meets the needs of commuters and adheres to project regulations.
