Senior Associate Deans

The School of H&S has four senior associate deans. Three are responsible for overseeing the academic direction of departments and programs within the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences and are appointed for three years and report to the dean of H&S. The senior associate dean for finance and administration is a staff position and reports to the dean of H&S.

Debra Satz

Debra Satz, the Marta Sutton Weeks Professor of Ethics in Society, is the senior associate dean for the humanities and arts. Satz is a philosophy professor and director of the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society. Her research focuses on the ethical limits of markets, the place of equality in a just society, and theories of rational choice. Satz also works on feminist philosophy, ethics and education, and issues of international justice.


Kathryn Moler

Kathryn Ann "Kam" Moler, professor of applied physics and physics, is the senior associate dean for the natural sciences. A leader in her field, Moler joined the Department of Applied Physics in 1998. Her lab, the Moler Group, is a mesoscopic magnetic imaging lab that works on questions around superconductivity and building and operating tools for measuring magnetic fields on small-length scales.

Ellen Markman

Ellen Markman, the Lewis M. Terman Professor of Psychology, is the senior associate dean for the social sciences. Markman, who previously served in this role from 1998 to 2000, has been a member of the Department of Psychology for almost four decades and was its chair from 1994 to 1997. She is regarded as one of the nation’s leading developmental psychologists.


Steve Olson

Steve Olson is the senior associate dean for finance and administration. He is responsible for executing the strategic vision and operational functions of the school and has direct oversight over finance, institutional planning, human resources, IT, facilities, and resource allocation. Along with his team, Steve works closely with the leaders of departments and programs within H&S to ensure they continue to thrive in support of the school’s mission.
