Construction on the Escondido Village Graduate Residences project is shifting parking availability on East Campus for commuters and residents alike.
As construction continues, traffic along Serra Street also is being affected, not only for utility work associated with the Escondido Village Graduate Residences project, but also to facilitate the construction of a roundabout at Campus Drive and Serra Street.
To date, more than 800 parking spaces have been closed to facilitate construction. These closures have occurred around residential complexes, including Blackwelder, Jenkins, McFarland, and Hoskins Courts in Escondido Village. Although there will be more closures as the project progresses, the current closures represent a majority of construction-related parking closures.
‘ES’- and ‘C’-permit holders are affected
In addition to affecting residents of Escondido Village, Mirrielees, and Rains, who largely have ‘ES’ parking permits, ‘C’-permit holders on East Campus may also have noticed impacts to parking availability. There is overlap in the lots and garages available to commuters and ‘ES’-permit holders, particularly in the cases of the Wilbur lots, Bowdoin Street, and Rosse Lane.
Although sufficient parking continues to be available on East Campus, both ‘ES’ and ‘C’ permit holders may find they need to park further from their destinations. Refer to our ‘ES’ Permit parking options map and ‘C’ Permit parking options map for parking alternatives.
Resources for residents
Parking & Transportation Services conducts regular surveys to determine parking availability and utilization around the affected areas. Maps of parking options based on survey data are available on the “Maps of the EVGR project” web page.
For the convenience of residents, 10 loading zones have been established throughout Escondido Village. On-demand car sharing vehicles at numerous Zipcar locations remain available. Refer to the Map of Zipcars near EVGR residents (PDF). On-campus discounted rates for Enterprise Rent-A-Car are available to Stanford residents, including $10 Weeknight Resident Rentals.
Stanford’s free Marguerite shuttle will continue to serve East Campus. However, five stops along Olmsted Road have been closed due to a partial closure of Olmsted Road related to utilities work. Lines N, C, X, SE, and O will substitute Serra Street for Olmsted Road along their routes.
About this project
The Escondido Village Graduate Residences project will add 2,400 new beds to the available on-campus graduate housing. As part of the project, two underground parking garages will be constructed. Traffic and parking impacts are expected on East Campus through 2020.
