Biography
Sokolow studies basic and applied research at the interface of disease ecology, health, and development. Her current research program seeks natural solutions to modern health and environmental problems. For example, can restoration of a native predator (prawns) provide a win-win solution for public health and economic development in schistosomiasis-endemic regions? She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Ph.D. degrees at UC Davis followed by a National Institutes of Health Career Award post-doctoral fellowship at UC Santa Barbara. Past work has also included the study of disease ecology on coral reefs and pandemic spread of avian influenza. She is executive director of Stanford's Program for Disease Ecology, Health and the Environment and cofounder and executive board member of The Upstream Alliance, an initiative joining global partners in research for schistosomiasis reduction.
