In-the-Field Presentation – Imaging Saltwater Intrusion along the Monterey Coast: Experiment in Progress Oct. 1-15
Stanford researchers will share details about an Oct. 1-15 experiment in Monterey, California, where they are studying saltwater intrusion threatening groundwater aquifers along the coast.
Featured Speakers
Rosemary Knight, Stanford University
Adam Pidlisecky, University of Calgary
Paul Bauman, WorleyParsons Canada
Come to this special presentation and Q&A to meet the research team and field crew from Stanford and Calgary. Learn about their work and results from their Oct. 1-15 work to map the freshwater/saltwater interface along Monterey's coastline. The experiment and its results will allow resource managers to better understand the distribution of the interface, and engage in proactive groundwater management. The research team is using a geophysical method - Electrical Resistivity Tomography - on the beach to see to depths of ~250 m, imaging the location of saltwater and freshwater.
