La Mejicanisima Tania Roman was born and raised in Houston, TX but had the privilege to start dancing in Guerrero, Mexico under the tutelage of Roger Uriostegui, a former dancer with the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez. She was fourteen years old and danced only for a year for she soon returned to the U.S., where she didn't dance folklorico until she got to Stanford. Being in Ballet Folklorico de Stanford has been one of the most memorable experiences she has had so far. And although she is going insane due to all the pre-med classes she is taking, she still manages to zapatearle bonito! Her favorite dance is Camino Real a Colima and Maracumbe. She is majoring in Human Biology and still trying to figure out the meaning of life. Until then, she will continue dancing until she breaks a leg or something'>

Javier was born in raised in El Paso, Tejas, the sun city borderland that flirts with three states and two countries. At the age of five, his father forced him kicking and screaming into the folklorico group at Hueco Elementary School. Since then, Javier has been a part of several El Paso folklorico groups, including Tierra del Sol Balet Folklorico Internacional. Javier's current focus within dance is Flamenco, though he also has experience in Ballroom and Social dance, African dance, and Ballet. Javier is also a founder of Flamenco Cardenal, and hopes to build collaboration between Flamenco and Folklorico, since these dance genres share a common Spanish ancestry. As an Earth Systems major Javier has the humble goal of saving humanity from catastrophic effects of global climate and ecological change.'>

This is my first time dancing ballet. I don't really know the regions so I don't really have a favorite region yet.

I joined because I saw Ballet perform at Admit Weekend, NSO and other events and really liked their performances. The performances were a big part of why I wanted to be a greater part of the Latino community at Stanford and I realized that I wanted to have that effect on future students. I also wanted to try learning something new. The only that that is too sketchy is not loving Ballet enough. I do do it in my boots.
