Standard Chartered Private Equity Africa, Value at the Frontier
In 2007, Standard Chartered Bank, one of the largest financial institutions in the world, launched an African Private Equity Practice under a preexisting principal finance program. The case follows the head of the group, Peter Baird as he overviews the African Private industry, and outlines SCPE Africa’s approach to all phases of the private equity cycle, from fundraising to liquidation, highlighting both the rewards and challenges of the frontier market private equity industry. The case discusses the growth of the African economy in the 2000s and the development of a private equity industry on the continent.
