Improving the Student Experience with Stanford Mobile
This fall, you’ll notice a reinvigorated Stanford Mobile — the official mobile app for the university — with improved functionality, student-focused design, and a new home screen with refreshed branding.
Sponsored by the Stanford CIO Council, the initiative is one of many IT community efforts to improve the student experience across various information systems. Until recently, the app was managed by University Communications. Now, University IT (UIT) is managing – and leading enhancement efforts of – Stanford Mobile.
“Revamping Stanford Mobile is an opportunity to enhance the way students experience Stanford on their mobile devices,” said Steve Gallagher, Stanford CIO, “and we’re doing this through expanded university partnerships.”
Designing through the student lens
As key players for enhancing the Stanford Mobile user experience, students will have a hands-on role to ensure that continuous iterations to the functions and features adapt to their evolving needs.
In addition to completing student user design discovery, UIT is currently forming advisory groups that include students and representatives from various schools and departments to provide input and inform priorities throughout the project.
2020 roadmap and beyond
The Stanford Mobile roadmap for 2020 and beyond is full of possibilities. UIT plans to explore more areas, including:
- Enterprise system integrations (e.g., housing and dining, student information, facilities)
- Staff and faculty mobile needs
Stay tuned for more about the new Stanford Mobile. In the meantime, check out the Stanford Mobile service page on the UIT website.
