About

Provost Persis Drell has said, “At Stanford, we strive to ensure that a diversity of cultures, races and ethnicities, genders, political and religious beliefs, physical and learning differences, sexual orientations and identities is thriving on our campus. Such diversity will inspire new angles of inquiry, new modes of analysis, new discoveries, and new solutions.”

IDEAL (Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity in a Learning Environment) is a set of campuswide initiatives that share the following goals:

  • To ensure that diversity of thought, experience, and approach is represented in all sectors of our education and research enterprise
  • To ensure that all members of the campus community feel they belong and are supported regardless of their background, identity, or affiliations; and
  • To ensure that all members of the campus community have broad access to the opportunities and benefits of Stanford.

The work of IDEAL is focused on four cross-campus areas that affect students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and staff:

  • Recruitment
  • Research
  • Education
  • Engagement
