Who can access Stanford Libraries?
Most Stanford Libraries are open to the Stanford community. The access requirements below are governed by Stanford Policies. Check the hours and library website for any additional requirements before your visit. You need an appointment to visit Special Collections or the Hoover Institution Library & Archives Reading Room.
To visit the library, you must:
- Have an active Stanford ID card. If you are on leave, your ID card may not be active.
- Complete the COVID-19 Hygiene Best Practices, EHS-2470-WEB in STARS.
- Complete COVID-19 surveillance testing, if required by university policy.
- Additionally, on the day of your visit:
- Bring your active Stanford University ID card to enter the building.
- Complete the Stanford Health Check Tool to self-report your health status. Be prepared to show your Health Check Badge status.
- Wear a face coverings (even if you are fully vaccinated) as per Stanford University policy.
- Courtesy (Spouse), Retiree ID cardholders, and Short-term Visiting Scholars without a SUNet ID need to complete the Stanford Visitor: Daily COVID-19 Health Attestation Form in lieu of the Health Check Tool. Contact the library you wish to visit to verify additional access requirements.
Library access is temporarily suspended for the following groups:
University-affiliated groups
- Stanford Alumni
- Hospital clinicians and staff (except Lane Library)
- Continuing Studies
- Summer program participants
- Stanford Center for Professional Development
Library-affiliated groups
- Reciprocal program participants:
- RLCP (Stanford/UC Berkeley)
- RSP (Stanford/UC schools)
- BorrowDirect and BorrowDirect Plus (Stanford/Ivies + Chicago & Duke)
- Fee-based library cardholders
