Stockton Scholar and Stanford student Princess Vongchanh ’23 reflects on their personal trajectory

Princess Vongchanh ‘23 (they/them), a rising sophomore majoring in Symbolic Systems and minoring in Astronomy, is a first-generation-low income student from Stockton, CA. A product of Stockton Unified schools, Vongchanh is a founding Scholar of the Stockton Scholars program, Reinvent Stockton member and a Little Manila After School Program 'US’ History Alum.

"My name is Karlaine Sales Francisco, and I am a first generation Filipina American from the Central Valley’s South Stockton, California. I am an Ilokano daughter with blood of sugar planters, ketchup cannery workers, grape workers and fishermen coming from Binalonan, Pangasinan and Santa Ignacia, Tarlac of the Philippines. When my family came to America, they found work and shelter in California cities — Stockton among them."
