Thank you for your interest in the Rheumatology Fellowship Program at Stanford

Our mission is to train excellent clinical rheumatologists and to prepare them for investigative careers in immunology, clinical rheumatology, or clinical epidemiology related to rheumatic diseases.   We take pride in offering our fellows a very broad and deep training that combines cutting edge science with compassionate care.  We also acknowledge that each fellow has their own unique background, special interests and career goals. We meet our fellows’ personal needs with the following:

1. Three unique training sites: Stanford University Hospital and Clinics, VA Palo Alto Health System, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Hospital and Clinics.
2. Numerous clinical electives both within and outside of the Division of Immunology & Rheumatology.
3. A diverse faculty working together in a congenial and collaborative way, all committed to the success of our fellows.
4. Two tracks for fellows to choose depending on their own interests: the Clinician Educator track, which is a two-year program with a heavy emphasis on clinical care and medical education, or the Physician Investigator track which allows for more time in the second year for investigative work, and potential third and fourth years to pursue specific scholarly goals and to prepare for a career in academic research.
5. A personal career mentor chosen by each fellow who is committed to guiding them during their time here at Stanford
6. World-class opportunities for learning within the School of Medicine as well as Stanford University as a whole.

Our fellowship program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). On successful completion of the program, graduates with prior certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine will be eligible for certification in the subspecialty of Rheumatology. Several of our previous graduates have been recognized as ACR Distinguished Fellows, and our fellowship alumni have each found career success, be it as academicians, clinicians, or industry leaders.  We currently match two new fellows each year with hopes to expand our program in the coming years.
