The Department of Medicine houses over 540 faculty members, 490 trainees, and 879 staff members and research associates who are all devoted to excellence in research, education, and patient care.

AHA and Verily RFA to Engage Millennial Women in Underrepresented Groups

Deadline: January 15, 2020

The goal of this RFA is to conduct a study that will recruit and engage millennial women within underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in Research Goes Red and utilize the platform and tools of Verily and the AHA to increase awareness and inspire action in these women to prevent cardiovascular disease and cerebrovascular disease. There are two-year awards for up to $200,000 per year ($400,000 max per award, including direct and indirect costs and costs). Three awards will be given. Learn more

Transformational Project Award

Deadline: January 22, 2020

Represents the second phase of a new idea; proposals should include preliminary data. Proposed work should be the next logical step of previous work and should already be demonstrating a high probability of revealing new avenues of investigation, if successful. Learn more

Center for Asian Health Research and Education Seed Grant

Deadline: January 27, 2020

Applications are now open for CARE’s Seed Grant Program. The grants spark research projects that apply innovative approaches to contribute to understanding of Asian Health. Interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged. The award provides $10,000 for a one-year term, and may be used to fund pilot research work by faculty looking to develop their research skills. Faculty with University tenure Line (UTL), Medical Center Line (MCL), Non-Tenure Line-Research (NTLR), Clinician Educator (CE) or Instructor appointments are eligible. Learn more

 

 

iHeart Research Dorothy Dee and Marjorie Helene Boring Trust Award

Deadline: August 1, 2020

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the world. The iHeart Research award is meant to support Stanford medical students excited about research solutions that impact how we treat and prevent cardiovascular diseases. Recipients will receive up to $15,000 and mentorship opportunities. Learn more

 

 

 

VA Fellowship in Health Services Research and Development

Deadline: Ongoing

The Fellowship Program in Health Services Research and Development seeks to train physicians and postdoctoral scholars who will become leaders in health services research and primary care research and education. The primary focus of the program is to provide research skills needed for a career in academic medicine. The main areas of research are clinical decision making, decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, outcomes research, guideline development, quality of life assessment, and secondary database analysis. Learn more

Stanford-Intermountain Fellowship in Population Health, Delivery Science, and Primary Care

Deadline: Ongoing

The two-year program includes tuition support for a master’s degree in health services research that gives fellows a basic understanding of epidemiology, study design, cost effectiveness, health policy, implementation science and other disciplines needed for a successful research or program development career.  Fellows will also be exposed to key health delivery concepts including Lean healthcare design, the Patient Centered Medical Home, longitudinal population outcomes tracking, and change management. Learn more

Stanford-AHRQ Health Services Research Training Program

Deadline: Ongoing

The Stanford-AHRQ Health Services Research Program has the mission of developing independent, well-trained, diverse researchers who conduct rigorous and innovative health services research (HSR) on critical challenges facing the U.S. health-care system. Supported by a grant from the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, pre- and post-doctoral fellows will work with mentors on their topics and methods of interest, as well as career development. Learn more

Medical Informatics Fellowship

Deadline: Ongoing

Fellows are offered an opportunity to combine formal training in Medical Informatics with research applying Medical Informatics to areas of relevance to the VA health care system. Fellows will obtain focused training in medical informatics while also having the opportunity to complete foundational coursework in (1) essential health services research methods, (2) implementation sciences and systems redesign, and (3) research in collaboration with operational partners. Learn more

Hewlett Award

The Albion Walter Hewlett Award is a department-sponsored award honoring an exceptional physician with ties to Stanford. It's named for Albion Walter Hewlett, professor and executive head of the Stanford Department of Medicine from 1916-1925, who was renowned for his outstanding contributions to patient care and medical science.


Meet the 2019 Hewlett Award Recipient

The 2019 Hewlett Award winner was Mark S. Blumenkranz, MD, MMS, H. J. Smead professor of ophthalmology, emeritus. An extraordinarily gifted eye surgeon with a focus on vitreoretinal diseases, he has also succeeded in such administrative roles as head of the vitreoretinal service; department chairman for 18 years; and involvement in the planning, fundraising, and construction of the Byers Eye Institute of Stanford, which he served as founding director between 2010 and 2015.
