If you authenticate with a smartphone or tablet, Duo App - Push Notification is the recommended method because it is the easiest and quickest way to authenticate. A push notification is sent to your device and all you have to do is tap Approve to authenticate. For even faster authentication, you can change your settings to automatically send your device a push when you log in.
Note: Internet or cellular access is required to use this method.

How to use Duo Mobile push notifications

On the two-step authentication screen, click Send Me a Push.

A blue bar at the bottom of the screen tells you that a push notification was sent to your device.

Open the Duo Mobile app on your device. You may see a message saying that you have a request waiting, displayed at the top of your screen. Tap the message.
Note: Once a push notification is sent you have 60 seconds to approve the request.

Tap Approve to authenticate.
If you get a request you were not expecting, tap Deny.
How to automate a Duo Mobile push notification
You can save time by automatically receiving a push notification when you log in. Follow these steps:

Go to the Stanford Accounts page, click Manage, authenticate if requested, and click the Two-Step tab.

Authenticate to access the My Settings & Devices screen.

In the When I log in drop-down menu, choose Automatically send this device a Duo Push.

Click Save to save your changes.
