Now we are six. Tomorrow's the sixth anniversary of our blog. It all started December 12, 2003 with the more-timely-than-ever "The tidings that dare not speak their name" featuring our Xmas card of that year. Now workin' on this year's design (prototype above and detail below). Tuck set up a ladder on the middle front-stairs stoop, we climbed and he held it steady as we clicked the shutter. Scott "Brown also needs to tap into the energy that drew thousands of angry Massachusetts voters to Boston Common last Tax Day," counsels Jules Crittenden in his latest advice column aimed at the Republican nominee who will face off against Democrat rival/shoe-in Martha Coakley in the January 19 special election for the "Kennedy seat" here in Taxachusetts. We love the suggestion that we tea partiers may be key to Brown's future inside the Beltway. But here's the main point:

Brown is in no position to run a conventional campaign in the few short weeks before the Jan. 19 special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s seat. He’ll have to use guerrilla tactics if he wants to come out of this as anything but a sorry also-ran. Surprise assaults, seemingly out of nowhere, that confuse his adversary and leave the opposition flailing. Dastardly, stealthy attacks like the utterance of “Merry Christmas.” Or something equally explosive. In fact, many things equally explosive.

Nothing sweeter than Howie Carr's advice — cited by Jules — to spook Coakley supporters and their media allies with "Republican hate speech":

Two words for state Sen. Scott Brown to use in his uphill campaign for the U.S. Senate:

Merry Christmas.

That’s it, just those two simple words. Throw them in at the end of a TV spot, a postscript. You don’t even have to waste scarce resources buying time on broadcast TV. A tiny expenditure on cable will suffice, and maybe a little radio and newspapers, just to give the networks some B-roll when they run their inevitable stories about this despicable outburst of … Republican hate speech.

Like the vampire who loses it at the sign of the cross, the liberals will be gasping for breath. Merry Christmas, everyone!
