Former Metropolitan Police chief Sir John Stevens says up to 200 Al-Qaeda "terrorists" are operating in Britain and the threat of attacks is real.He urged the government to press ahead with its controversial anti-terror legislation as quickly as possible.
Sir John, writing in the News of the World, said militants trained by Osama bin Laden "fester" across the country.
But the Liberal Democrats accused him of sending "mixed messages" adding to an already "complicated situation".
How is that possible? I mean, the Brits gave Muslims their own village and Muslim girls are allowed to wear their veils inside the schools. What more could these Muslims possibly ask for?

Sir John Stevens is regarded as "the copper's copper" and has drawn universal respect during his long tenure at the Metropolitan Police, where he is regarded as having revitalized and strengthened a depressed organization. When he retired, it was a universal chorus of gratitude. And it is not true that he waited to be retired to launch his warning; months before he left, he had said that a terrorist attack on London was inevitable, a matter of when rather than if. He has always been very clear-spoken about the (Islamic) terrorist threat. The difference now is quite simply that he has thrown his reputation in the ongoing political struggle about a detention on suspicion bill.
Muslims in the UK are the largest minority group? You don't say! Is that sort of like jumbo shrimp? Well, we all know what happens to the biggest and juiciest shrimps in the ocean now, don't we! MMMmmm shrimp!
South Asians in the UK (code word for muslims), have very high levels of unemployment. Something like 30% of muslim families have no single person in employment. This means that is very little to do for these men except to collect social security benefits, which these days are probably sent directly to the bank anyway. What else to do then except to go to the mosque, and that is where they get involved in the Jihad.
And yet, I continue to hear what a huge contribution muslims are making to the UK. What for instance - apart from huge increase in crime, resulting prison expenditure, legal aid, and not forgetting the huge expenditure on guarding against terrorism.

Some of the salient figures:
- Muslim men of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin are disproportionately unemployed compared to other Asians. Even after allowances for education and residential area, Pakistani Muslims are three times more likely to be jobless than Hindus are. Indian Muslims are twice as likely to be unemployed than Indian Hindus are.
- Over two-thirds of Bangladeshi and Pakistani households (68%) are living below the poverty line (incomes below 60% of the median, after housing costs). This compares with just under a quarter (23%) for all households.
- In employment, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis are two and a half times more likely than the white population to be unemployed and nearly three times more likely to be in low pay.
Notice the much larger unemployment figures for Indian and Pakistani Muslims than for Indian and Pakistani Hindus, demonstrating that -- to the chagrin of the human rights crowd -- the disparity cannot be due to racism in the UK.
The analogy -- presented here by Hugh, I think -- between benefits pay and the jizya is right on the mark.
mixed messages is right. Jason Burke (who wrote a book on the subject) said that al quaida as a related terorist organisation simply does not exist.
I've been doing my own investigations from very close quaters for the last two years filming with the tabloids favourite bin ladens of britain abu hamza and abu abdullah in finsbury park. If they weren't so paranoid the whole thing would have been on tv a year ago.
