Rape law reform hits Sharia roadblock in Pakistan

An opportunity squandered in Pakistan, as a cabinet committee chips away at reforms of the Hudood rape laws. Sharia Alert from the Daily Times: "Hudood Ord amendments: Cabinet body to delete adult age clause"

ISLAMABAD: The cabinet committee formed to review draft amendments to the Hudood Ordinances has decided to delete a proposed change that would make sex with a girl below the age of 16 the offence of rape.
Cabinet sources told Daily Times that several minister had objected to this clause when the draft amendments were presented to the cabinet for approval a week ago. The prime minister formed a six-member ministerial committee to resolve differences over the amendments.
The sources said Sher Afgan Niazi, the parliamentary affairs minister, Aftab Sherpao, the interior minister, and Dr GG Jamal, the culture minister, had argued at the cabinet meeting that this amendment would cause trouble in rural and tribal areas where girls are traditionally married off at a young age. The ministers argued that in Islam, a woman becomes an adult when she reaches puberty.
The sources said the six-member ministerial committee had now communicated to some cabinet members that it had decided to remove this condition. The other amendment that ministers objected to was one that would give equal weight to the testimonies of adult male and female witnesses in rape cases. They had also voiced concern at the timing of the bill, but the prime minister had rejected this concern, the sources said. The bill was to be tabled in the National Assembly on Monday, but was delayed on account of the ministers’ objections. It is now expected to be tabled on Wednesday, after a parliamentary party meeting of the ruling coalition on Tuesday endorses the bill.

If they lower the age of rape to below sixteen, they would prevent themselves from enjoying thighing with babies. And of course, raping little girls.

They aren't going to change the laws because it would affect ALL muslim males and they can't have that. There would be no more enjoyment in islam.

And, to give equal weight to women in rape cases, would put women on an even par with males. Can't have that.

I don't know when muslim males will EVER get it through their thick heads that, puberty does not make a girl a woman.

Naseem, why don't you and other women in Pak work to give yourself and your girls a right to life?

Of course they would oppose this. The Prophet had himself a nine year old girl and since this "Perfect Man" was, well, perfect, it just wouldn't do to make what he did a crime. As any civilized people would do.

And give a woman's testimony equal weight to that of a man? Again, that's not what the Prophet would do. It's anti-Islamic crazy talk!

What's really amazing to me is the silence from western feminists over the plight of women in Islam. If you go to the website of that most inane and irrelevant women's organization, NOW, there's plenty about the so called threat to women's rights from Dubya and the Republicans, but not a peep about Islam's continuous degradation, exploitation and downright enslavement of women. Which in a typical day, far exceeeds the worst hyperventillating nightmares of the NOW crowd. Incredible, but sadly true.

It's not so amazing, Proud Infidel. Feminism has absolutely nothing to do with helping rape victims and such. Feminism is a supremacist, paranoid ideology that believes women to be The Best People Ever, while men are of course stupid pigs and so on. Replace "women" with "Muslims" and "men" with "infidels," and you've got Islam is a nutshell.

I just realized that what I said above might not make any sense, but feminism isn't supposed to make sense. I guess the central issue is that they ignore actual problems (rape) and concentrate on small or completely imaginary problems, which is why you won't necessarily see them complaining about Islamic terrorism againts women, which is an actual problem. Or something. Trying to make sense of feminism is difficult at best.

JC Supercop,

Feminists are professional victims ( and so are Mohammedans professional victims ). Consequently, real victims threaten their 'victim for life' status and therefore, are best ignored.

Real victims (unintentionally, of course) compete for the social goods fake victims want for themselves. The various cults of victimology always rely upon denying the evil that goes into making actual victims of people. On this, the rest of us can rely. Never underestimate the power of the morally weak.

Rape seems to be a sporting event amongst the ROP .. with gang rape a favorite variation of the sport. Children .. male or female ... are considered popular and fair game for adult male predators. When a culture denies the value of the feminine with such consistent vehemency as the ROP, can we be at all surprised?

For anyone with the stomach to endure it, there is this:
Sexuality In Islam (Paperback)
by Abdelwahab Bouhdiba

The scholarly Mr. Bouhdiba considers necrophilia a light-hearted bit of foolishness .. but what else can we expect from the Religion of Death?

Iraqi shepherds are being killed for not putting diapers on their goats. Apparently, Muslim men live in such a sexually repressed society that they become excited at the sight of a naked goat. Religious leaders ruled that the goats must be diapered.

Meanwhile, a grocer and two of his employees were assassinated for displaying their vegetables in a sexually suggestive manner.

Don't believe me?

I wrote about this last night...and haow about why I need woman to be free..Well besides that they probably discovered agriculture, singing and cloths they help keep civilization moving forward by constantly keeping us men motivated to work. Let me explain further.

I believe that if not for the fairer sex most men (me included) would wear the same clothes till they rotted off our backs. Most men would probably not mind living in a tent or cave someplace in the woods, fishing and foraging enough to get by. Our highest level of technological innovation would probably

Naseem? Care to comment? It apears that the bleatings of that old goat Mohammed are still echoing throught your world, keeping you from advancing into the 21st century. I thought your koran was supposed to be enlightening, putting women in a place of protection and honor? But I see that like everyhting else in your book of lies, it is just smoke and mirrors, lies to placate the gullible. Taqiyya, kitman and male bovine fecal matter...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Prophet did say he had seen a vision of hell and most of the occupants were women...guess this and the treament and oppression and sexual (vaginal) mutilation of women and young girls in Islamic society holds no import to the big western sisters, they would rather get professors kicked out of university for stating there is a 'difference' between men and women. Let the Islamic women and girls eat cake I guess is the feeling. Or the liberal thinking of it's thier "culture"...and all cultures are to be embrassed, muderers or not.

Well of course they can't allow those amendments as it would put them in the cross-hairs of their fellow co-religionists for debasing the Koran.

JC Supercop

I am a feminist, and I'm right here informing myself and writing to politicians, media and my friends to spread the message.

Lili, a true feminist isn't concerned about Muslims raping women in the desert. I'm sorry, but these days feminism has nothing to do with protecting women. There should be some separate titles for feminists and "feminists."

JC Supercop, allow me as a feminist and a woman (neither of which I take it you are) to tell you what a true feminist is - not the other way around. You can call people who don't care about abuse of women something else if you like, but they are not feminists.

How would you like it if I started abusing a term you hold dear?

Isn't that exactly like a so-called moderate Muslim trying to tell everyone that all those terrorists and extremists aren't real Muslims? Nearly every feminist I've ever seen has been a useless, man-hating extremist whiner who complains about imaginary problems and so on.

The most maddening thing about feminists is that they concentrate all their energy on developed nations instead of focusing on the really problematic areas, such as Islamic societies and enclaves. Yes, it's really terrible that a woman can't be a firefighter when she has insufficient strength, but could we please focus on FGM or something?

JCS: You describe contemporary feminism--"women are victims", "special standards for women", "all white American men are rapists", etc. CLASSICAL feminism is merely the belief that qualified women should be allowed to participate fully in public/professional life as they choose--i.e., if you can carry 300lbs of dead weight down a ladder, you should be allowed into firefighting school even if you menstruate. Unfortunately, since the F-word is so associated with the whiny victim groups, most people with classical feminist beliefs will never ever use the F-word to describe themselves, including myself. It's a damn shame.

ANYWAY. In addition to the presence of real victims diminishing the victim fantasy of contemporary self-described feminists...the biggest "issue" for American feminists is the right to kill their own children (in utero, and after the Andrea Yates business, post-birth killing seems to be a "women's right", too). Have you seen any of the NOW/NARAL propaganda claiming that a ban on partial-birth abortion--where a baby is killed during delivery--is the ideological equivalent of Taliban rule?

So, in Muslim nations if you get raped and can't find enough men to defend you, you're guilty of adultery and sentenced to die. If "feminists" start campaigning on behalf of innocent girls so they might live, people might question their advocacy of killing other innocent girls (and boys). Worse, they might start to question it themselves, and then the whole movement crumbles! (good riddance...)

Sickening.

Cornelius ..

The moment I think the Religion Of Peace & Death cannot possibly become more weird .. and then I follow your link. Geezo, but I'm torn between being more astonished by the reported story concerning goat diapers and sexy vegetables and that fact that it was reported on NPR.

How does one get used to the idea of the Farmer's Almanac, at least in Islamist hands, being considered racy :) ?!? The prohibition on goats behinds and luscious veggies does allow me more insight into the fearful contempt the ROP&D has for Man's Best Friend .. those gleefully uninhibited hot diggity dog rascals!

Sadly, I have to agree with you on this one. Many self-described feminists talk as though the greatest threat to women of the world is Bush funding too many "abstinence-only" anti-AIDS programs.

There was a small outcry a few years ago about FGM. Oddly, it seems to have died down, although the practice itself surely has not.

The defense of the hideous "Hudood" laws in Pakistan, threats of stoning to death for "unlawful sex" (in some cases a girl being raped by relatives) in Nigeria, the burning of girl's schools and the killing of their teachers in Afghanistan, the charges of "mal-veiling" in Iran for girls as young as ten--these are just a few of the horrible offenses against women that I have come across in the last few months.

This is what all good people, feminists especially, should be fighting against.

gravenimage,

"This is what all good people, feminists especially, should be fighting against."

Unfortunately, when one's belief system rests upon 2 falsehoods:

# Men are the enemy (unless they succumb to women's demands to behave in the same manner as women. And then they will still be despised .. but, will be considered, at least, useful idiots)

# Men and Women are exactly the same. (An especially odd and paradoxical theory when placed next to the first idea .. Of course, it's also false)

I think you can forget about Feminists standing up for anything worthwhile. I'm right with you about "all good people" fighting this .. and as a woman (and maybe especially as a wife and mother) my concerns for matters affecting women and children is high .. I haven't found it necessary to claim myself a victim of men in order to have womanly concerns; my worthy status as a woman suffices.
