World-Class Institution, World-Class Benefits

Stanford is committed to offering a competitive benefits package for its faculty, staff, retirees and their eligible dependents. From wide-ranging health and life coverage to attractive retirement savings programs, child care assistance and tuition grant benefits, Stanford strives to offer a benefits program befitting this world-class institution, including:

Medical & Life Benefits

Stanford's Medical & Life benefits deliver flexibility and diversity for our unique workforce. Reaching far beyond medical care, Stanford provides additional benefits for family leave, maternity, long-term care and health-incentive programs.

Medical, Dental & Vision

Stanford offers a variety of medical plans to accommodate the needs of you and your eligible dependents. There are also two dental plans to choose from and a vision care plan.

Life Insurance

Stanford provides basic life insurance and offers you the opportunity to purchase supplemental life with high maximums for you and your eligible dependents. Accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is also available.

Disability Benefits

Short-term and long-term disability benefits are offered, including family leave.

Long-Term Care

Stanford offers you the opportunity to purchase individual insurance at group rates for long-term care services such as nursing and home care — for active employees, retirees and some family members.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Our Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) help you plan for certain health and dependent day care expenses while reducing your taxes.

Staying Healthy

Stanford Staying Healthy programs promote ongoing health and well being, with financial rewards for participation.

Visit the Medical & Life section for more information about the benefits discussed above.

For benefits-eligible employees who accrue paid time off, several types of paid time off are available, including vacation leave, sick time, personal time off (PTO) and a floating holiday. The university closes all but essential operations between fall and winter quarters, when employees typically receive additional days off to combine with paid time off and university holidays to use during that time period.

Retirement

Stanford retirement programs — both financial and health — are designed to see you through your health and financial needs during retirement. Visit Medical & Life to learn more about your health benefits in retirement. Visit the Retirement section to learn more about our financial retirement plans, including our matching contribution program.

Tuition & Training Programs

Stanford offers support for staff, faculty and eligible dependents to further their education with the Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP), Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program (STRP), and the Tuition Grant Program (TGP). Visit the Tuition & Training Programs Website to learn more.

Eligibility

Faculty and staff of Stanford University and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory as well as certain family members are eligible for benefits coverage if they meet certain eligibility requirements. See Eligibility for more information.
