Selecting a Health Plan
For Your Health
Stanford provides several options for medical and dental coverage, as well as a vision care plan. If you receive a paycheck, your contributions toward costs are made on a before-tax basis, lowering your taxable income.
Medical Plans
Stanford offers five types of medical plans: Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

- Stanford Healthcare Alliance
- Blue Shield EPO
- Blue Shield PPO
- Blue Shield High-Deductible Health Plan
Mental Health & Substance Abuse
When you enroll in one of the medical options, you and your family are automatically covered for mental health and substance abuse care. The Stanford Faculty & Staff Help Center is available to all employees.
Medical Contribution Assistance Program
To make it easier for you to provide medical coverage for your family, we created the Medical Contribution Assistance Program (MCAP). If you qualify, the program pays up to the full employee contribution of the lowest-cost medical plan when you cover a spouse and/or children.

Dental Plans
Stanford offers two Delta Dental plan options that provide coverage for dental care through Delta Dental's network of dentists. You may also see a dentist outside of Delta's network.
- Delta Dental Basic (formerly Delta Premier)
- Delta Dental Enhanced (formerly Delta Dental PPO)
Vision Care
Stanford offers vision care that includes coverage for eyeglasses and contacts through Vision Service Plan (VSP).

Our Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) help you plan for certain expenses while reducing your taxes. Check out our health and dependent day care FSAs.
Health Savings Account
If you enroll in the Blue Shield High-Deductible PPO and are eligible for a personal Health Savings Account (HSA), we offer easy enrollment and the opportunity to contribute via payroll.
