Selection Process

Birthright Israel Selection Processhillel_israel_06

There are many trip providers for Taglit-Birthright Israel (most people just say Birthright) and Hillel at Stanford partners with Young Judaea, a Birthright trip provider, to run trips during winter and summer break.  We work with Young Judaea to create a Birthright trip that is fun while providing opportunities to discover and engage with the depth and complexities of Israeli society.

*Please note that the timing of your interview will not affect your assignment status.*

On the day of registration go to Young Judaea for a step-by-step registration guide: http://www.youngjudaea.org/toisraelnow.  We suggest reviewing these steps before registration day.

**What is the selection process?  Hillel at Stanford looks for a diverse group based on our applicant pool. Hillel takes being previously waitlisted with us, or other Birthright trip providers, and exceptional situations into consideration but it is not a guaranteed spot. The interview is a critical part of the process. The interview provides us an indication of what are the students’ interests and we try to develop a diverse group of students based on the information we collect in the interviews. The majority of our selected participants are chosen based on the date and time of completing the two applications (Taglit-Birthright Israel and Young Judaea Infocenter) and then by lottery. In accordance with Taglit-Birthright Israel rules, past health, mental history, and Jewish observance has no bearing on our decision-making.
