Housing will be available in Stanford undergraduate or graduate residences. More specific information will be added to the CSI website as we receive it from Stanford Summer Conferences. Further details will also be sent to accepted students in March.

Medical students, both U.S. and international, are not eligible to apply for Stanford CSI.

Yes, international students can apply. Stanford University is not able to sponsor visas for the purpose of this certificate program.

Yes, home-schooled students can apply to this program.

Who is required to have test scores:

• All students in the United States in grades 11 or 12 are required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI application.
• All undergraduates in their first year of college are required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI applications.
  

Who is NOT required to have test scores:

• All students in the United States in grade 10 are NOT required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI application.
• All undergraduates in their second year of college or later are NOT required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI applications.
• All international studnets are NOT required to submit test scores with their Stanford CSI application.
  

If you are an applicant who has taken one of the tests but has not received your scores, please upload a Word document or PDF with a brief statement stating why you do not have scores and when you expect to receive your scores. You will need to submit delayed test scores to stanfordmedcsi@stanford.edu as soon as you receive the score reports. Applications will be be considered incomplete until test scores are received.

If you are in your second undergraduate year or beyond, then you do not have to provide your test scores.

No. Stanford CSI is a very competitive program. Every year we receive more qualified applicants than we can accept.

Once the student has been accepted into the program, the spot is guaranteed as soon as the full payment for the program has been received.

The application fee is nonrefundable. If an accepted applicant withdraws before June 1, 2018, then 50% of the fee will be refunded. After June 1, 2018 there will be no refunds.

Yes, unofficial high school and college transcripts will be accepted.

Stanford CSI is a clinically oriented internship and students may at times come in contact with patients during case studies (eg transplant patients on immune suppressant medications), standardized patients, clinicians and nurses, so it is important to know that they are healthy and do not have any communicable diseases, in particular tuberculosis. Documentation of a negative TB test (Mantoux or Quantiferon) within the preceding year is therefore required. If you have received the BCG tuberculosis vaccine, you will send need to send in a negative Quantiferon.

Yes.  Stanford University requires that our participants are 15 years of age by the start date of the program.

Accepted applicants are required to provide a copy of the following immunizations with registration to attend CSI (no exceptions):

• TdaP (preteen booster age 11-12)
• 2 MMRs
• 2 Varicella (chicken pox) immunizations - or MD confirmation of illness, or laboratory evidence of illness (antibodies)
• Meningococcal vaccine – initial as preteen and booster at 16-18
• TB test - evidence of immunity within one year of the start of the internship via PPD/Mantoux skin test or TB Quantiferon antibody test (is not altered by previous BCG vaccination)
• Hepatitis B vaccination

Yes, the students get to keep the white coat, scrubs and the stethoscopes after the program is over.

No, students do not receive any grades or credits for this program.

All students will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the program. The certificate will be issued on the last day of the program. Students are required to attend all days with the exception of a day for illness or for emergencies.

Laptop computer is optional, however,  students may find them useful for taking notes and researching various topics.

Professional attire or scrubs are required during program hours as there will be interaction with physicians, patients, residents and medical students (no jeans, T- shirts, tank tops or cutoffs). Scrubs will be required on 5-6 days during activities such as dissections, suturing and anatomy lab; students will be notified ahead of time.

Students will be provided with white coats, scrubs and stethoscopes. They are expected to have their white coats and stethoscopes during sessions with patients.

Yes, lunch will be provided each day.

Yes. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Food allergies are also accommodated.
