Be Aware of Postdoctoral Scholar Policies
Two websites provide the university’s postdoctoral policies and procedures: the Stanford Postdoc Handbook (http://postdocs.stanford.edu/handbook) contains information regarding registration, tuition, codes of conduct and postdoc responsibilities, and the Research Policy Handbook section on Postdoctoral Scholars (RPH 10.3) contains additional information on the policies governing terms of appointments, visas, salaries and stipend and other benefits for Postdoctoral Scholars at Stanford.

Attend one of the quarterly brown bag lunch sessions: Finding and Applying for Postdoctoral Fellowships: Overview of Resources and Procedures. This regular, bring-your-own-lunch, session is led by Debra Porzio, the Postdoctoral Fellowships Manager at the Research Management Group with the School of Medicine. She will give an overview of the extensive resources that postdocs may search and find fellowships and funding opportunities, including NIH, NSF and other funding agencies. Ms. Porzio will also describe the necessary steps any postdoc at Stanford must take in order to submit fellowship applications, obtain institutional sign-off, and accept funding. Much of the information will apply to postdocs at the School of Medicine as well as those in other Schools whose support comes through the Office of Sponsored Research. This is a must-take session for new postdocs and is a good refresher for current postdocs. The goal is for participants to leave with all the pertinent information in order to find opportunities as well as successfully submit applications for funding. This session is offered several times every academic quarter. Registration is not required.
