Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play an integral role in advancing SBC's mission. They are our ambassadors in their communities and provide an invaluable resource in assisting our staff in our centers, at local mobile drives and at various community events. Our volunteers are an essential part of the SBC team.

Shaguna Wilkes,
Volunteer Services Manager

At Stanford Blood Center, volunteers have the unique opportunity to work directly with our donors as they help save lives through blood donation.

Volunteers at Stanford Blood Center are giving back to their own communities. They interact directly with our donors and medical personnel.  All of our volunteer positions support our mission to provide blood products to patients in need.

Volunteers assist with a variety of positions within the agency, at our centers in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Mountain View, as well as at our various mobiles held at businesses, schools and community organizations throughout the Bay Area

Opportunities Include:

Post-donation Canteen Host: Volunteers Interact with donors after their donation, monitoring their recovery; alerting medical personel if there is a need, and serving refreshments.

Label Table: Volunteers prepare blood bags and tubes for donors, label donor history sheets, and match labeled pieces to the donors waiting to donate.

Marketing Events: Volunteers assist with set up, greeting, and clean up at various donor-related events including BBQ’s, center drives and Café Sci presentations.

Administrative Support: Volunteers can utilize their professional administrative skills by assisting in our offices with data entry, mailings and other projects

All of our volunteer opportunities include free orientation and training. Minimum age for volunteering is 16.
