Endocrinology Fellowship
Stanford University and the Division of Endocrinology have a long history of outstanding research and clinical excellence. The clinical program encompasses inpatient consultations and outpatient clinics at three hospitals: Stanford University Hospital (SUH) in Stanford, the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VA) in Palo Alto, and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) in San Jose.
The program is designed to provide an intensive clinical experience during the first year in which each fellow rotates equally through all three hospitals. A variety of clinics are included in the teaching program to provide a wide diversity of patients. Patients referred to the clinics reside throughout Northern California and Nevada, as well as Pacific Rim countries of Asia. Following the clinical year, the fellow moves into a research laboratory to pursue basic or clinical research training while continuing some clinical responsibilities.
Research efforts are supported by government and private funding and cover diverse areas such as hormone action, including peptides, steroids and catecholamines, various aspects of diabetes, hypertension, and lipoprotein metabolism, including immunology of type 1 diabetes and insulin action, growth disorders, calcium metabolism and metabolic bone diseases, reproductive endocrinology, pituitary disorders, and the genetics of endocrine disease. Stanford University also offers a KL2/TL1 Clinical Research Training Program where awardees may pursue a master’s degree while already a clinical or research postdoctoral fellow.
