The Center for Health Care Evaluation (CHCE) is one of 13 VA Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Centers of Excellence in the United States.  Its mission is to conduct and disseminate health services research that results in more effective and cost-effective care for veterans and for the nation's population as a whole. 

CHCE is an applied health services research center composed of experts trained in health services, health economics, epidemiology, public health, evaluation research, social psychology, medical sociology, and biostatistics.  CHCE has primary affiliations with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System in Palo Alto, and with several departments at Stanford University, including the Division of General Internal Medicine.  The Acting Director of CHCE is Susan Frayne, MD, MPH, of the Division of General Internal Medicine.  The Associate Directors are Alan Garber MD, PhD of CHP/PCOR, and Christine Timko, PhD

CHCE is committed to advancing the health services research careers of junior faculty at the VA through its participation in the VA HSR&D Career Development Award program.  CHCE also has an active post-doctoral training program.
