About
IRiSS provides support to faculty members seeking to obtain or who have already secured a grant. We work together with the faculty and the university’s administrative units to assist with grant management, including grants from the National Science Foundation. Please direct questions to IRiSS Executive Director Chris Thomsen.
Proposal Development
In coordination with faculty, IRiSS can assist in the development of large-scale grant proposals in the following ways:
- Facilitating funding opportunity searches
- Proposal drafting and editing assistance
- Negotiating award and sub-award issues
- Preparing grant budgets

Data Management Plan
As of January 2011, the NSF requires all funding requests to be accompanied by a Data Management Plan (DMP) which describes the types of data used in the study and how they will be managed during and after the study period.
DMP Tool
The Stanford Libraries Data Management Services group, in collaboration with the California Digital Library, has created a DMPTool, an online tool to assist in creation of a DMP. Grant Management
Once faculty members have been awarded a grant, IRiSS can also assist in managing the grant by helping to:
- write reports
- ensure the project follows the timeline
- request any necessary changes
