Clinical Instructorships

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Stanford University has available one-year clinical instructorships in cardiopulmonary transplantation and the surgical management of congestive heart failure.

Duties will include patient care responsibilities in heart, heart-lung, and lung transplant procedures, the insertion of mechanical circulatory support devices, and organ procurement. Participation in the preoperative evaluation of potential candidates, transplant logistics, transplant surgery, and in postoperative care. The clinical instructor will follow heart and lung transplant patients throughout their hospital course until the time of discharge. Teaching duties will comprise a portion of the work and the clinical instructor will provide clinical assistance and instruction to students and nurses in transplant related topics. The transplant clinical instructor will work with residents and other clinical instructors in the care of transplant patients. There are opportunities to perform clinical and laboratory research related to transplantation.

Individuals who have completed an accredited training program in cardiothoracic and are interested in additional training in the surgical treatment of heart failure and cardiopulmonary transplant are eligible to apply. Must be eligible for and maintain a California medical license or be eligible for a license exemption.

The Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery is seeking a candidate for a non-accredited position for the year July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016. The desirable  candidate could be either board eligible or non-board eligible in thoracic surgery. 

Duties will include patient care responsibilities in the preoperative evaluation of patients admitted to the pediatric cardiac surgery service, intraoperative involvement with technical aspects of the surgical repair, and postoperative care both in the intensive care unit and on the ward.  Opportunities for clinical research projects are also available. 

Individuals who have completed a training program in cardiothoracic surgery and are interested in additional training in pediatric cardiac surgery may apply.  Applicant must be eligible for a California medical license or exemption.
