Clinical and Translational Research Program
Betty Irene Moore Children's Heart Center at LPCH
The Clinical and Translational Research Program (CTRP), which launched in fall 2014, is led by Doff McElhinney, MD, and promises to promote a collaborative framework to support research discoveries by the faculty, clinicians, and other members of the Betty Irene Moore Children's Heart Center at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH).
This novel program is designed to meet the evolving needs of the patient community and to act as the platform for the Heart Center to assume a leading national and international role in advancing the field. One of the central functions of the CTRP is to support research within and by any and all members of the Heart Center. An important component of this mission has been the establishment of a core clinical research infrastructure, which includes a full-time statistician, an integrated cohort of 8-10 research coordinators, evolving programs for quality registries and advanced analytics, a collaborative relationship with the Quantitative Sciences Unit, a group of 11 statistical scientists who are based in the Stanford University Department of Medicine and whose support of the CTRP includes specific areas of expertise and supplemental statistical coverage in high volume periods.
The CTRP is housed in a dedicated office suite on the first floor of 780 Welch Road, a brand new Stanford building across the street from LPCH, which houses the personnel described above, as well as an administrative coordinator for the program and 4 full-time research fellows. There is a state-of-the-art conference room, with full video and web conferencing capabilities, multi-function copier machines that allowing scanning and faxing, and computer access to all clinical and imaging systems for the hospital. The facility is fully supported by the information technology infrastructure of LPCH and Stanford University, and is in compliance with all relevant guidelines and statutes.
