Our Mission
The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) is comprised of a team of outstanding clinicians, scientists, and scholars dedicated to improving the lives of patients with serious lung disease and optimizing the treatment of the critically ill.
Division Announcements
October 2015: Congratulations to our Division Chief, Mark Nicolls as the recipient of a new R01 and P01 grant. The former award is a large R01 entitled "Integrative Omics as a Discovery Tool for Pulmonary Hypertension" with Mark Nicolls, Marlene Rabinovitch and Michael Snyder serving as PIs. The P01 grant project entitled 'The Role of Macrophage-derived leukotriene B4 in pulmonary hypertension" is a program project with the University of Colorado and is the renewal of the longest running grant in the Lung Institute at the NHLBI, now in its 41st year of continuous funding. Dr. Nicolls also recently renewed his R01 grant titled "A Critical Role for Microvasculature in Airway Transplantation".
October 21, 2015: The Division announces Dr. Gundeep Dhillon is taking over as the Medical Director of the Stanford Lung/Heart-Lung Transplant Program. Dr. David Weill is stepping down after a decade of notable service to the transplant program which saw tremendous growth and revitalization under his leadership.
November 14, 2015: Stanford University PCCM has been selected as a Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) Care Center Network (CCN) site for the 2015-2016 application cycle thanks to the amazing efforts of Dr. Kapil Patel and Susan Jacobs in the Center for Advanced Lung Disease.
November 25, 2015: Congratulations to Dr. Amit Gohil for being this year's recipient of the Stanford PCCM Division Teaching Award.
December 8, 2015: Congratulations to our own Susan Jacobs, who has been serving pulmonary patients for several decades at Stanford. She has been selected as the California Thoracic Society 2016 Outstanding Clinician of the Year. Her name has also been submitted as the nominee for the ATS Outstanding Clinician of the Year by the California Thoracic Society.
December 8, 2015: Congratulations to Natalie Peters, ARNP, CNS, who has been nominated for the DAISY award. DAISY is a national foundation that is joined by over 1800 healthcare facilities of the country. The award is nominated by patients, families, colleagues, physicians and other staff. Behind each award lies a story of extraordinary care and compassion, and intends to remind them what they do everyday is important and crucial.

About our Fellowship Program
Welcome to the Stanford Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. We offer a 3-year ACGME accredited fellowship designed to provide outstanding clinical and research training in an intellectually vibrant and highly supportive learning environment. Our fellowship’s three distinct tracks are structured to offer trainees experiences that align with their unique career goals. We also offer an additional 4th year of subspecialty training in Lung Transplantation, Pulmonary Hypertension and Sleep Medicine which fellows can apply for in their third year.
Training
All fellows receive 18-20 months of clinical training in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine with core rotations at Stanford University Hospital, the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and the Palo Alto VA Health Care System. By rotating at these hospitals with distinct patient populations, fellows are exposed to a wide breadth of disease states and pathology. Our elective courses provide the opportunity for the additional in-depth study of specific areas of interest. Our fellows are also provided ample time to explore outstanding research opportunities at Stanford. Thank you for your interest in our fellowship program and for exploring our website.
