Infectious Diseases In the Department of Medicine

Conferences

A full variety of clinical and research conferences is supported by the division.

  1. The Clinical Lecture Series is a weekly seminar designed to provide didactic education in subject material integral for the study and practice of infectious diseases.  These lectures are at 8:00 am on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Tuesday mornings of each month.

The 4th Tuesday morning of each month is designated for board review.  This session is run by a combination of clinical faculty, the chief fellow, and senior fellows and is designed to focus on topics essential for preparation for the ABIM Infectious Diseases subspecialty exam.

  2. HIV journal club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:00 immediately following the regularly scheduled didactic lecture for the morning.  Journal club provides a fellow-run in-depth discussion of current clinical and research topics in infectious diseases and specifically HIV medicine.

  3. Clinical Interactive occurs on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 immediately following the regularly scheduled didactic lecture for the morning.  These are informal discussions on wide-ranging topics including case presentations by the first year fellows.

  4. The Epidemiology core lecture series is held on the third Tuesday of each month at 9:00 immediately following the regularly scheduled didactic lecture for the morning. Core topics include: principles of epidemiology, HIV, tuberculosis, microbial ecology, vaccine-preventable diseases, and bioterrorism.

  5. Microbiology Rounds. These are held on Thursdays at 10:30 at Stanford.

  6. Weekly divisional Grand Rounds provide a forum for the presentation of clinical cases and research activities of divisional members and invited outside speakers. Grand Rounds are held every Thursday afternoon throughout the year with the exception of holidays.

  7. A variety of research conferences are available through the Institute for Immunity, Transplantation, and Immunology (ITI).  A complete list of events and conferences is available at the ITI website: http://iti.stanford.edu.

  8. Research conferences are also offered through the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (to which a number of our faculty have joint appointments): http://microimmuno.stanford.edu.  These include a Wednesday seminar series at noon (offered at Munzer Auditorium at the Beckman Center on the medical school campus).
