How to Apply for Fellowship (2015 application)
Application Requirements:
Applicants should be either U. S. Citizens or U. S. Permanent Residents. Unfortunately due to NIH training grant requirements, we are unable to support applicants to the research fellowship track who are not U. S. Citizens or U. S. Permanent Residents. Applicants should hold an M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D. degree and be in good standing in the medical community. By the time of enrollment in our fellowship program, they should have completed an accredited internship and one or two additional years of internal medicine residency training, and should have a California license to practice medicine.
Application Procedure:
Our fellowship programs participate in the National Residency Matching Program. You may register on line at http://www.nrmp.org/index.html after the 2015 fellowship match opens. Dates will be posted on the NRMP website.
Please note that there are separate applications for the research fellowship and clinician/educator fellowship tracks.
All applicants must submit their fellowship application, curriculum vitae, personal statement, letters of recommendation (minimum 3), medical school transcript, USMLE transcript, and recent photograph through ERAS at https://www.erasfellowshipdocuments.org/ before August 15, 2014 in order to be considered in the 2015 fellowship match. In addition, foreign medical graduates must also submit their ECFMG certificate (transmitted by NBME).
We will periodically update the website when our application deadline and other information related to the match become available.

Interviews:
We email invitations for interviews to candidates who we feel will gain most from the training program. Fellowship interviews will take place during the months of September and October. We will prepare an agenda for each visiting applicant, including meetings with current faculty and fellows, to acquaint you with the clinical and research opportunities offered with our programs. In order to make your visit as useful and productive as possible, please allow us three to four weeks to prepare your agenda. After reviewing the description of the program, you may wish to meet with particular members of the faculty or have in-depth discussions about a particular research area. Please inform the fellowship coordinator about your special interests, and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
In November, the faculty will review all of the documents for each candidate including impressions obtained from interviews. Applicants will then be ranked with the national infectious diseases fellowship match program. We will be happy to provide information about the status of each person's application at any time during the process.
Please note that the Fellowship Office will be closed Monday, December 22 through Friday, January 2, 2015. The office will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2015. All correspondences during the closure will be answered once the office reopens.
