Stanford Neurosurgeon Honored with UCSD 40 Under 40 Alumni Award

Stanford neurosurgeon, Dr. Melanie Hayden Gephart, will receive UC San Diego's 2018 40 Under 40 Healer Award, a recognition given to outstanding alumni who have brought honor and distinction to the university.


Stanford Neurosurgeon and Inventor Receives Prestigious AANS Award

Congratulations to Dr. John R. Adler, recipient of the 2018 AANS Cushing Award for Technical Excllence and Innovation in Neurosurgery, presented at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting 2018. 


Lifetime Achievement Award Given to Stanford Neurosurgery Pioneer

Congratulations Dr. Donald J. Prolo, honored with the Council of State Neurological Societies (CSNS)'s Leibrock Lifetime Achievement Award, presented at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting 2018. 


Stanford Residents Honored with SFNS Young Investigator Awards

Three Stanford residents received Young Investigator Awards for their research work at the San Francisco Neurological Society's 70th Annual Meeting. Dr. Kai Miller received the Harold Rosegay Award, Dr. Laura Prolo received the Edwin Boldrey Award, and Dr. Arjun Pendharkar received the John Hanbery Award. 


Stanford Residents Honored with AANS/CNS Joint Section Abstract Awards

Stanford Residents Drs. Allen Ho and Yi-Ren Chen received the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerve's 2018 Top Abstract Presentation Awards and Kuntz Scholar Top Abstract awards.


National MS Society Awards Stanford Researcher Prestigious Scholar Award

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has awarded Brad Zuchero, PhD, the prestigious Harry Weaver Neuroscience Scholar Award. The Award will fund 5 years of work focused on improving our understanding of the role actin cytoskeleton plays in controling myelination and remyelination. 


Neurosurgery Residents Awarded Joint Section's Travel Fellowship

PGY-6 Resident, Dr. Laura Prolo, and PGY-5 Resident, Dr. Derek Yecies, received this year's Resident Traveling Fellowship from the AANS/CNS Joint Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery. The Fellowship is only awarded to two candidates each year, and this year the top two candidates were both from Stanford Neurosurgery's Resident Program! Dr. Prolo will complete her Fellowship in Texas, and Dr. Yecies, will travel to New York for his, in 2018.


Stanford Resident Receives Prestigious AANS/CNS Joint Section Award

Stanford Resident, Dr. Derek Yecies, was Awarded the prestigious AANS/CNS Joint Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery's Shulman Award. The Award is given each year for the best paper presented by a resident-in-training at the Joint Section's annual meeting. In addition, Dr. Yecies was presented a 2017 CNS Abstract Award at the CNS Annual Meeting.


Stanford Neurosurgery Department Now Claims An Impressive Three Van Wagenen Fellows

Few institutions can claim that one of their neurosurgeons is a William P. Van Wagenen Fellow; at Stanford we have three! Stanford neurosurgery resident, Dr. Kai Miller, is the winner of the 2018 fellowship and will be traveling to The Netherlands for his research. Stanford neurosurgeons, Drs. Samuel Cheshier, and Odette A. Harris, are also Fellowship awardees, having completed their fellowships in Sweden and Jamaica, respectively. 


Associate Professor of Neurosurgery Receives Stanford School of Medicine Outstanding Honor

Dr. Marion Buckwalter, associate professor of neurosurgeryand of neurology and neurological sciences, received the Stanford School of Medicine's 2017 Award for Excellence in Mentoring and Service. 


Dr. Gary K. Steinberg Receives Society of Neurological Surgeons' Top Honor

The Society of Neurological Surgeons named Dr. Gary K. Steinberg the 2017 recipient of the international and prestigious WINN Prize, for his outstanding and longstanding commitment and contributions to the field of neurosurgery. 


Meet the 2017 Endocrine Society Laureate Award Winners

Congratulations to Dr. Katznelson, Professor of Neurosurgery and Medicine (Endocrinology) at the Stanford University Medical Center, Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital and the Palo Alto Veteran's Affairs Health Care System.  Dr. Katznelson was selected by the Endoncrine  Society for their 2017 Outstanding Educator Award which recognizes exceptional achievement as an educator in the discipline of endocrinology and metabolism.


Dr. Gary K. Steinberg Receives 2016 Stroke Journal Progress & Innovation Award

Dr. Gary K. Steinberg, was one of three recipients of the 2016 Stroke Progress and Innovation Award.  The Award was given for a paper on the findings of the first clinical trial for stroke patients in North America using intracerebral transplanation of stem cells.  


Gary K. Steinberg, PhD '79, MD '80 receives the J.E. Wallace Sterling Lifetime Achievement Award in Medicine

This honor was first conferred by the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association in 1983. The award is named for the former Stanford University president who, in 1953, recommended that the Stanford Medical School be moved from San Francisco to join the main education and research Stanford campus in Palo Alto.

Dr. Steinberg's extraordinary advances impacting medical science and education in the realms of neurosurgery, experimental research investigation, and long-term dedication to chairing the Department of Neurosurgerymake him a most deserving recipient of this award.
